E-Book Information

Do you have a new e-reader, tablet or other device that can display e-books?  Would you like to download free e-books from the Library2Go service?  Check this list of tips and resources to help you get started.  If you need more help, contact Library staff. If you need to contact Library staff for assistance we will need the following information:
  • Your Library card number
  • What kind of device you are using (make and model)
  • The operating system of the device (Mac OS; Windows 7, Vista, XP, etc.; Android)
  • Title(s) of problem downloads
  • Text of any error message(s) and the steps you performed that resulted in the error message(s)
  • If using a Kindle or Kindle app, verification that you have an Amazon account and have registered your device or Kindle Reader app with that Amazon Account.
  • Information about any other applications that you have downloaded, such as OverDrive Media Console.
This information is needed as well by OverDrive, the parent company of Library2Go, if we need to forward your support request to them for assistance.

Remember, in order to get started, you will need:
  • A Library card in good standing, with a PIN (personal identification number). If your card needs to be    renewed or if you need to change your PIN, library staff can help you with this.
  • A device that is compatible with the Library2Go program.  For a list of compatible devices, click here.  Note:  there are also some devices that are known to be incompatible.  For that list, click here.
  • Access to a good Internet connection.  Depending on the type of device that you choose, you may also need access to a personal computer or laptop.  Library computers and library wireless access may be used with some devices, but not with any device that requires installation of software for that device, nor for devices (such as the Barnes & Noble Nook) that require that the downloads go into a computer first for transfer to the device.

For next steps click your device type:  Kindle; iPad; Nook; Android Devices.

Do you have a Kindle or the Kindle app on another device?
  • First you must have an Amazon account, tied to a credit card number, even though this is a free service.
  • Second, you must register your Kindle or other device to that account. Go to http://www.amazon.com/ and, under the Kindle tab, click "Manage Your Kindle".  You will need to sign in with your account.  After signing in, you can choose "Register a Kindle".  After completing these two steps, you are ready to look for e-books on the Library2Go site and download them to your Kindle.
  • Note:  You will need to use a computer to log on to the Library2Go site, locate and check out e-books for Kindle.  You cannot do this from a Kindle, except the Kindle Fire.  But even with the Kindle Fire, unless you change your browser settings to display the "desktop" version of the Library2Go site, you will not be able to see available Kindle books.  If you do not know how to change your Kindle Fire browser settings, use a desktop or laptop computer to browse for and check out ebooks.
